The “Topics” Menu Item

Over there in the right sidebar, see that first section? The NilsNews is divided into ‘topics’ (aka ‘Categories’), so that when one of our contributors writes a piece on, say, a story about Alex or the band, it will appear under “Stories.” A fan piece might appear under “Tributes” and Niko, myself or Carlos might use “News” as the topic of an announcement of some sort.

Brilliant, eh? O yea, the idle mind is capable of nearly anything. Just for laughs I’ll select “Tributes”, and “Stories”, so that both of those topics will appear in the sidebar.

When one of our many contributors, as yet unbeknownst to either them or ourselves, writes a piece, they will be encouraged to select an appropriate “Category” before actually hitting the “post” button. See how it all fits together? Frightening, almost, innit?

Open Note to Niko

One way or another, buddy, we will get this thing right. Nobody has put more time and heart into relaunching the legend of The Nils as much as you have. Remember, if people don’t like your “english”, well wait till they hear my “french.”

For anyone who wants an idea of what it means when we say, “Put up, or shut up”, I would have them look at the list of “More Nils Sites”, over there in the right sidebar, and realize that you, Niko, have pretty much single handedly built or created every one of those Nils pages.

And now we’re doing the same thing here. Good to know the Nils have so many people that “really love them” and all that, huh? Ha ha ha, yeah … plus ça change, plus c’est la même choses, non?

Like I said … one way or another.

Still at it …

Still no higher resolution images, therefor the “Images” page remains “under construction.” Likewise for a band history, and an ‘original’ Alex ‘page.’ Why “original?” Well, it’s an effort to avoid copyright violations. The previous history of the band was rather disjointed. And the page of Alex Soria’s friends talking about him, after his death, was a Montréal Mirror article.

Anyway, I’m hoping to get some people involved in some writing. My notion was to simply build the site here, not ‘run’ it, and certainly not create it in terms of content. But editing is crucial, and I’m still hopeful that the site will have “a life of its own” once the actual framework is in place, and a few knowledgeable people step up.

I knew Alex pretty damned well, to be honest, and loved the band, too. But I can’t sit here and “invent” the early history of The Nils, nor the last years of Alex, since I was back in the States by that time. Hence the need for witnesses, you know, friends with pens. Okay, not “pens”, how about keyboards?

I’ll be sending out a few invites soon. We need authors on the blog, and a few “stand up” types to take a swing at setting the records straight.

mmhmm, Brian

We’re getting there!

The build of the Nils Net site is taking a little longer than we’d hoped. But the Images page is up and running now! You can see it here.

The “contact” page and the merchandise section (aka, the ‘store’), are next on the agenda.

Thanks for your patience,
The folks at Big River Media
